Parental Responsibility

Parental Responsibility

Parental Responsibility is defined as all the rights and responsibilities that a parent has in respect of their child.

All mothers have parental responsibility automatically. Fathers who are married to the child’s mother at the time of the birth or have been registered as the father on their child’s birth certificate, also automatically have parental responsibility for their child.

If you not have parental responsibility, you can obtain this via a parental responsibility agreement, by marrying the mother or via a parental responsibility order made by the court.
